Overview
“Internal Eclipse” addresses the external forces that affect internal conditions, such as lunar phases affecting the ocean tides and animal behavior. On the personal level an eclipse can be physical or mental, with one affecting the other – either positively or negatively. Primarily, a solar eclipse blocks most light from reaching its destination – always in very brief moments. A reminder that time can be the healer, where regeneration often follows. This wall sculpture, made from marble and light, is 3′ wide x 1.5′ tall x 1.25″ deep.
Goals
I combine stone with light to reveal what normally is not seen beneath the surface. I use this as a metaphor to express what I see as the energy that exists within and emanates from all things - some would say at a sub-atomic level. To do this, I carve areas of marble impossibly thin allowing light to pass through the stone, illuminating its crystalline and mineral structures.
Additional Information
Additional images show on the right "Allting Har Enda, Korven Har Tvo" (an old Swedish saying which translates: 'All things must end, but a sausage has two'). together with "Internal Eclipse" on the left, from the body of work I call Light Sculptures. These are 1" to 3" thick marble wall sculptures, combined with LED back-lighting.
