Overview
This artwork stands in front of Monticello Library in Shawnee, Kansas. It is constructed out of Corten Steel with a rust patina. It is made up of two human heads, their dimensions are 10’ x 8’ x 9’ (large head) 8’ x 5’ x 7’ (small head).
Goals
The artwork is made up of two abstract, geometric human heads. They are facing one another, engaging in a conversation. Over the last year, I interviewed community members, young and old, about knowledge and curiosity. I collected over 400 written responses. One head represents the knowledge we have acquired and the other showcases the questions and curiosities we have for our world. The responses have been cut out of the surface of the sculptures, allowing light to pass through the piece in the evening. The artwork is inspired my personal experience with literature—the knowledge I pursue and the whimsy that captures me alive.
