Overview
More than just a bus shelter, this project includes bike racks, glass panels for wind resistance, and a living roof for diverting storm water. It also incorporates recycled materials and reclaimed wood.
Goals
The design, a collaboration with artist John Darko, includes steel columns with twisted rebar "vines" climbing up to the garden roof.
Process
The project was financed by the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) program and administered through the Kentucky Office of Local Programs – a program that utilizes federal highway money to fund multi-modal projects that improve air quality and ease traffic congestion.
