‘Illuminated Gateway Arbors’ creates a focal point for the Port of Walla Walla Airport located in two areas 1. a garden area at the tarmac and 2. the street entrance park along a busy thoroughfare in this vibrant agrarian community and wine country destination. Two exterior site groupings comprise 90 aluminum trees with layered dichroic, royal blue and translucent eco resin acrylic ‘wing’ forms depicting the forward movement of air transportation and the area’s exponential growth. These trees are installed on cascading concrete platforms, covered with ½” river rocks quarried from the Walla Walla area.
Goals were to define a gateway entry at the front of the airport facility and the Tarmac area.
WASAC, Koryn Rolstad Studios and the Port Commission were involved to define a gateway environment.
Much loved by the community and visitors to this important wine country.
