Overview

The mural shows the history of the civil rights movement thru positivity and hope utilizing portraits and quotes.

Goals

As part of the cultural framework for the project, Caron wanted to honor both well-known and lesser-known impactful leaders in the civil rights movement. “The mural visually teaches history and true equity takes many voices and many opinions. “ The mural honors the selected following Icons: Augustus Savage, Ella Baker, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Fannie Lou Hamer, John Lewis, Kathleen Neal Cleaver, Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King. The mural was also inspired by a photographic exhibition The Summer of '68: at the Norton Museum of Art.

Process

For the project, we partnered with the West Palm Beach Arts & Entertainment District, the West Palm Beach DDA, and Subculture Group to bring the project to life. The mural is a collaboration between Street Art Revolution artists Dahlia Perryman, Eduardo Mendieta, Tracy Guiteau, and Nate Dee. The artists will combine styles and work practices to create the mural using both spray paint and hand brushwork on the 100 feet wide x 18 feet tall Respectable St wall (located at 518 Clematis ST, West Palm Beach, FL.)
