Client: Related Group

Overview

Icon Midtown in Atlanta is a $118 million dollar, 39 story sky-rise by the Miami developers, Related Group. I was commissioned to create pieces for the lobby, gym and pool areas. I worked closely with the interior designer to create artwork unique for each space that incorporates the overall feeling, color schemes and textures.

Goals

The goal for the lobby was to create something sophisticated that was neutral in color yet still had eye-catching appeal. Since this was Related Groups first Atlanta project, I proposed creating a pattern using Georgia native species in a circular shape. For the pool area, I was given free reign to create a perfect backdrop to their beautiful pool on the 11th floor. The most challenging thing about this area was researching the best substrate for a semi outdoor exposure. My proposal included detailed information on how the panels would be split so they would fit in the freight elevator, the substrate and coatings that would withstand sun and rain and the hanging method that would withstand wind and not damage the waterproofing layers within the wall.

Process

I met with the interior designer and contractors on site several times during the construction process, created Powerpoint proposals explaining each detail and was on site for installation.
