Overview

A client approached me with the idea to create a denim store for men. The shop is located in the bottom of a historic bank building in downtown Fayetteville, AR. I chose to incorporate many original features of the space to create a funky urban shop that would cater to the young professionals that live in this Southern college town. We used the stone walls as backdrop for our shelving system, the wooden floors as display for hand-painted portraits, and the original vault as an entrance to the dressing room area.

Goals

Artwork was key to create the vibe of this store. A local artist was commissioned to paint old-world portraits on the wooden floor and to also hand-painted an Oriental runner that adorns the outdoor staircase leading to the entrance. The final piece was the custom-designed fabric which envelops customers in the dressing rooms. My in-house team created a fabric design adorned with pin-up girls from the 1940's. - an unexpected twist for a men's dressing room.

Process

The store owner is Donny Hubbard, and Goddard Design Group designed his upscale men's clothing store in Rogers, AR. Donny wanted to reinterpret the design of Hubbard and create a more casual store with a denim-centric focus. Hubbard Denim is located on the Fayetteville, AR historic square and the clientele is young professionals who live in this Southern college town. A casual, urban vibe was created, and the store has been a hit with all visitors to Fayetteville.
