Overview
This site in Fukuoka prefecture’s historic urban center is comprised of two main structures(504-room, 14,270): the “Onsen” spa on the ground floor and the hotel on the upper floors.
Goals
Natural stone covers the retaining walls on the ground level, and a large, glazed opening facing the south serves as the entrance to the complex. The open spaces in the middle of spa function as inner courtyards, which are appointed in the traditional Japanese garden style.
Process
The east wing of the ground floor houses retail stores and a restaurant that attracts customers from the commercial area to the east of site. The geometric arrangement and warmth of the exterior tiles are especially inviting to prospective visitors.
