Overview

Titled “Auditorium”, “Around the Table”, “Winter”, “Fishcamp”, “Summer” and “Library”
the six murals painted inside Ket’acik & Aapalluk Memorial School in Kwethluk
(Kuiggluk) honor the elders past, present and future as mentors to our children.
Totaling 1200 sq ft these large works surrounding the circular dining hall/entry and in
the library are the result of 18 months of research and 5 months working and living in
the school during the winter of 2020 then thru the summer and fall of 2021.
Portraying 150 elders as well as students, staff and residents, my goal has been to
accurately represent Kuiggluk, a Yup’ik community on the Yukon Delta tundra.
The involvement, guidance and support from the citizens of Kuiggluk has been
essential to the success of this project: to Pauline Morris, Ira Jackson, Sarge Guy,
Ingrid Nicolai, Ilarion Nicolai, Olga Uttereyuk, Tina Epchook and so many others.
With a special thank you to Mary Nicolai. Thank you also to Dennis Cobos at LKSD,
Beverly Chmielarczyk, Juan Rozas, AJ Reid, Christie Holechek and to Felicia Forletta,
Natalie Mikesell, School staff and students.
Quyana,
Andrew Reid SHEd
