The main creative aim of the proposal for through the use vitreous enamel panels to bring life and way finding into the underpass. The panel geometry was designed to create a new sectional profile for the underpass as well as a seamless sense of spatial continuity. The artist also designed new lighting transforming the originally dark tunnel into an inspiring and safe looking space. As a result the footfall through the underpass has increased considerably through both day and night.
The artist Peter Fink closely collaborated with the local authority traffic engineers.
