Awakening people to act on Climate change, through the inspiration from art.

Process

I received an invitation to create a site specific installation for the official art show during NYC Climate week 2019.The art show was a collaboration with Kingsland Wildflowers gardens at Boroadway stages,, Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund, and Nosphere gallery.

I visited the industrial space ( the roof above is where the Wild flower garden is) where the art show would take place and instantly had a vision of what I would make. I was given total creative freedom, only restriction was that people could move around it.

Back in my studio at EFA, I made some quick sketches of my vision and then in a mediation it came to me that I wanted nature and creation to speak through my piece.

The process that happened over the next weeks was surprising to me. Instead of the piece focusing on the difficult aspects of climate change it went into the Heart of the matter, to the source of creation. This was the message:

We can always create aNew.

A message of hope and inspiration. When the installation was all done and up I was very touched by especially the response from children. Entering the space they went right to the installation and started to dance, laugh, run and interact with it. And I thought, I can't get a better compliment than that.
