Overview

The work was designed to celebrate the role of Veterinary Medicine in global health through images of the doctors and students at work, and the animals in their care. The total size of the project was approximately 1,640 square feet in three areas: the stair, the corridor and the waiting room.

Goals

The goal was to comfortably integrate figurative work in a contemporary building in such a way that it would engage staff, students and visitors alike.

Process

As the artist and designer I worked closely with a committee of department representatives and the director of University Museums at ISU. There is a long history of public art on campus dating to Christian Peterson in the 1930's, the first artist in residence at a US college or University. This was my third commission for ISU. I have enjoyed a good working relationship with each of the different committees involved. I am beginning a fourth commission at this writing.

Additional Information

Healing Tree is considered the largest mural in any medium at Iowa State University.
