Overview
Half Hitch 1 & 2 consists of two mirror-polished bronze forms that each flank the entrance to the 900-seat theater on Norwegian Cruse Line's new 4,000-passenger ship, the Escape, and was commissioned by Soho Myriad Art Consultants.
Goals
The goal of the sculptures was to crete an intriguing, welcoming, and stimulating environment for passengers. Capturing this in the design was as important a part of the project as their location - the entrance to the 900 seat theater.
Process
Collaboration took place between myself, Norwegian Cruise Lines consultants, Soho Myriad Art Consultants, and Versteeg Art Fabricators. We shared thoughts on inspirations, goals, and needs. We quickly unified behind a design that welcomes passengers into the theater and has a nautical meaning - the knot is one most commonly used in sailing.
