Overview
Working with the Art in Embassies Curator to create the main lobby ceiling artwork was a dream come true. Waiting for site install images!
We started this project in 2019 pre-Covid then on hold until 2022.
My Chicago Fabricator and I worked closely with the Curator and his construction team for all the details needed to create a seamless installation.
My vision was to create a large scale version (16′ x 8’w x 10’h) of my Floating Intersection series.
Adding delicate translucent colors with a nod to the exquisite Jalisco desert, I created a harmony with the exterior landscape and the stunning aluminum architectural interior elements.
I could not have been happier with the project, team and results!
Goals
Creating a substantial yet light hanging sculpture to fit in the main lobby area and staying within budget seemed to be paramount.
Process
The design phase was a collaboration with the Art Consultant, after landing on the direction, I worked with my fabricator to create a fabrication, shipping and installation map. We then met with the construction team and Art Consultant to hear their concerns and questions. There were a number of zoom meetings since we are not in Mexico. The Consultant handled the customs and the Construction team handles the installation
