Overview
I worked with the interior designer on this project. She wanted to celebrate the winter season in Breckenridge and all its beauty. I was brought on to create the elevator lobby artwork. The projects managers and GM wanted something unique and different. The concept was ice, snow, light, winter textures, glimmer. The GM also wanted mirrors in the lobby for the guests. I came up with multi panel pieces that filled the lobby wall and incorporated custom created antiqued mirrors into the artwork. Each floor had different compostitions and colorations to use as way finding for each floor.
Goals
The client and designer wanted to create an understated elegance while retaining the mountain experience. They wanted to bring a more contemporary feel to the spaces utilizing more of a relationship to bringing the outside in via the winter textures in the mountains. The elevator lobby pieces also had to incorporate mirrors for the guests and act a way finding visual so guest would easily know what floor they were on.
Process
I worked closely with the designer and the various project managers on the design and construction team. I brought in the custom mirror person to add to the creation of our piece. He was thrilled and made different toned colored mirrors for each floor to harmonize with the paintings I created. It was great fun creating these pieces...all very textural with soft coloration.
