Overview

This wall sculpture is one of two. Northwest Arkansas Community College wanted sculptures to depict the types of learning that would be taught at the Shoemaker Center For Global Business Development on their campus. Two different wall sculptures were made hanging on walls opposite each other. I presented maquettes for the two sculptures and mine were chosen by NWACC’s President’s Advisory Council on Art. The sculptures are five feet wide by three feet tall.

Goals

The area of learning at this facility include retail, entrepreneurial, sustainability, transportation and logistics, The area that the sculptures were to be installed had nothing in it. It is an entry into a meeting space that the college and the community use for events. Other than the orange walls, there were no other considerations to work with. I used oxides to color the clay in places and left the natural color of the clay in the rest. The colors worked well on the orange background.

Process

I collaborated with the construction team at NWACC to install the substrate for the clay sculpture to hang on.
