Overview
A Buffalo Soldier Memorial commemorating the history of the calvaries stationed in Lakeland during the Spanish American War prior to their deployment to Cuba. Hot cast bronze sculpture with patina, polychrome and gold leaf details stands 7′ tall by 4′ wide x4′ deep
Goals
Represent the history of the Buffalo Soldiers in Lakeland FL and their involvement in the Spanish American War, deployed to Cuba.
Process
Artist Becky Ault designed and sculpted traditional clay sculpture. Once the sculpting was completed she collaborated with ART Research Enterprises, Inc. to take the clay from Mold to Bronze Casting with a hot chemical patina and polychrome finish, with 24 carat gold leaf accents. She also collaborated with Platform Art who commissioned the work, local historians, and school children from Lakeland FL schools.
