Found You! is a series of three rabbits playing Hide and Seek. There is a simple and profound joy when we “find” someone. When we take the time to invest in each other, get to know each other and feel genuinely seen and heard by someone. This is fundamental to our humanity and sense of belonging. These playful rabbits nudge us to look for one another and to find the light and goodness in them.
The artwork is located in Eastern Metro Market Park, on Capital Hill in Washington D.C. In our current cultural, racial and political climate we are polarized. The reasons we are divided are many and it is easy to lose sight of the thousands of reasons we are similar and have common ground with one another. I felt we all needed a lighthearted and whimsical reminder of a reason to come back together. To seek and to find goodness and light in each other.
Found You! is a piece created out of whimsy, imagination and a spirit of playfulness. The sculpture is composed of three rabbits that are playing a game of Hide and Seek. Hide and Seek is a child’s game where one person closes their eyes to count and the other players hide. It is a simple game of discovery.
The sculpture depicts one rabbit, standing on its haunches, with its paws covering its eyes. This rabbit is allowing time for the other two to find a good hiding spot. The other two rabbits are on all four paws moving within the plaza space. The rabbits are designed in a geometric style and made of stainless steel. The surface of each rabbit is perforated with a pattern of small circles to allow light to pass through their form at night.
