Overview
Location: Route 66 West Gateway, Tulsa, OK
Description: Large ring and pinion gears drive an oil drill shaft sculpted in concrete and covered in tile and glass mosaic. Mosaic pictograms inside the large ring show a timeline story of transportation designed for visitors to walk through to view the images.
Goals
Sculpture is positioned to complement the accompanying Route 66 Gateway and to offer a photo opportunity for visitors as well as a Geo Coin to log in and tell the story of their visit to the site.
Process
Working with the city, a local engineering firm and local contractors made for a smoothly managed project that was well received by the public.
Additional Information
The City of Tulsa was excellent to work with in all regards.
