Overview
10 Massachusetts-based visual artists were selected to each create a 60 second video piece for a 160 ft long “Video Wall” at the entrance to the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center. Our piece, Floating Nebula, is a 2D, hand-drawn animation. It depicts a space of relaxation and tranquility with a grand view of the energy rushing all around us.
Process
Artists were encouraged to propose whatever they like so long as it would fit the dimensions of the Video Wall and be 60 seconds in length. Our piece, Floating Nebula, did not stray too much from the original proposal. We did not have communications with other artists during the creation period and but shared a Dropbox folder to place drafts and final pieces. It was a pleasant surprise to see the variety of artist styles represented as the folder filled up.
Additional Information
We've screened our animation on all kinds of large screens before but 160 ft is certainly the longest. This was also our first time creating an animation, albeit very short, for a specific location. It was a positive experience and the people at Boston Cyberarts were extremely helpful and easy to work with.
