Overview
54″ x 54'x 6″ Stainless steel, & recycled stainless. The installation is a “frieze” along the front elevation of the Fire station which depicts an abstraction of the fire fighting process.
Goals
Predominant goal was to relate the artwork to the facility and its uses. There was also a requirement of low maintenance. The frieze area above the firetruck doors was the determined location for artwork.
Process
The collaborative process was mainly to relate the artwork to the viewer and user of the facility. Input was gathered from those working at the station and of course there was collaboration between myself, as the artist, and the construction contractors to establish time-line and to insure appropriate meshing of the support system with the final artwork. I worked closely the City of Dallas Cultural Affairs Dept. to coordinate the process from proposal concept through installation of the final piece.
Additional Information
This project was a successful melding of artwork with the planned architectural elements of the structure. I feel the work relates well both to the aesthetics of the building and to those utilizing the station.
