Overview
Four 6′ high sculptural elements joined with two 20′ long, 90 degree outlying, rising ramps in the triangular court yard of the Area Vocational Center, Ogden, Utah.
Goals
The Utah Art in Public Places Program in conjunction with the AVC administration sought a sculptural enhancement for this triangular area. Out of this fact the original scale model design was inspired and ultimately led to the commission.
Process
The fabrication and installation of the mosaic surfaces was executed by Franz Mayer of Munich, Munich, Germany. The process was overseen hand-on by the artist at their Paterson, NJ facility and fabricated in collaboration with in-house artisan Hannes Sellner’s guidance. The objective during execution had been to come as close as humanly possible in transferring a proposed design using a scale model as presented to the committee into a full size architectural mosaic sculpture installation.
