11,450 Enfants. 250 x 450 x 175cm. Stainless Steel. The brief was for a commemorative artwork in remembrance of the 11,450 Jewish children deported from Paris during the German occupation of France between the years of 1942 and 1945.
Considering the sensitivity of the commission's subject matter, the artwork had to be respectfully and organically integrated into the cemetery. It had to be finely balanced so as to form a luminous yet undisruptive presence. Visually, tonally and emotionally; it had to pay homage to each single child, and the children together. In remembrance, in love, and in the unending hope for a long future of peace.
