Client: Brown Memorial Library, Central State University

Overview

This sculpture was created for the Hally Q. Brown Memorial Library on the campus of Central State University in Wilberforce, OH is an Ohio Arts Council % for Art project. The university library had been refurbished, thus state % for art funds were allocated to commission art. The sculpture includes 18 quotes by notable African American educators, laser cut into the six book pages suspended in the center of the sculpture. The quotes were chosen by the library staff.

Goals

EIDOLON was commissioned to honor education, books, reading and educators in the African American community.

Process

After consulting with the administration, I presented several models, we narrowed it down to the final idea, which I built in my studio. The university library's staff assisted in the selection of the quotes.
