Overview
Proposed mural for an entry area at Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla, California. 10'x7.5' ceramic inks on glass, mounted with hardware that offsets the glass an inch from the wall.
Goals
Intended to graphically depict, in a playful way, the Institute's mission statement: to seek, teach, and communicate scientific understanding of the oceans, atmosphere, Earth, and other planets for the benefit of society and the environment.
Process
The creative director identified key institute activities including hands-on research, autonomous data gathering devices, worldwide telecommunications, and research vessels and facilities. A representative listing of flora and fauna being studied was also provided. This information was used by the artist to formulate a lively summary of the institute's activities and concerns
