Overview
A large scale lenticular with transparency and light.
28′ x 6′ x 7’6″
This project was created in conjunction with a Seattle sign company (Messenger Inc) for the Seattle Design festival 2019. It was also chosen to be displayed at the 2019 Bumbershoot music festival. Conceptually this project was an attempt to create dimensional space and interaction utilizing two dimensional graphics with positive and negative space while any approach offered a unique image that would change as you engage further with the project. It was designed such that it could be assembled and deconstructed with a two person team.
Goals
This artwork was intended to be mobile from the start, offering a unique advantage to be deployed in multiple situations. In a way the work created a new context within which the art and its surroundings interact.
Process
This was a collaborative work through and through. As the conceptual designer I was tasked with a project manager and fabrication team that I worked with to complete the vision as intended. I directly communicated with the fabrication team, ensuring the shop drawings I created would be fabricated to exacting tolerances. The printing team was provided art files and we worked together to create a multi-process direct print to CNC workflow. The on-site assembly was handled by the sign company installers with my supervision.
