Client: Atlantis, The Royal Hotel

Overview

John Edmark’s Dahlias are a pair of illuminated, programmable wall mounted sculptures installed within the Resonance Bar at Atlantis, The Royal Hotel in Dubai. Sean Orlando/Engineered Artworks collaborated with Edmark to design, engineer, fabricate, and install his largest sculpture project to date, a stunning and complex work featuring tiles that create a simplified fractal spiral based on the golden angle.

Goals

We think beauty is very nourishing, and we like to try to create beauty in various forms. Beauty can sometimes take the form of objects that are mysterious and magical and not immediately obvious, and it can also take the form of pattern and color. The Dahlias accomplished these formulations of beauty through a complex engineering and fabrication process, and now they add an illuminated, geometrical mystery to the space.
