Overview
Insurance company Corvus approached me to create some moveable murals for their offices in 2019. In line with the CEO’s love of corvids, I created two different muralist featuring different types of birds from that family. The birds were hand-painted on wooden cut-out that are affixed to the wall but can be removed if necessary. The painted elements reflect the fauna where each corvid can be found.
Each mural is about 15 feet long. The Magpie mural is about 10 feet high and the Jay mural is about 7 feet high. The birds are triple clear coated and attached with French cleats to the walls.
Goals
The CEO wanted to celebrate his love of corvids (of which I am a fan as well!) and enliven an otherwise dull, white office. I used bright colors to create eye-catching installations at the back of the space, drawing visitors in.
Process
I worked with the CEO to understand what kinds of birds he wanted to feature and we came up with the idea of the cutouts in order to satisfy the requirement that they be moveable.
