This work is a celebration of the local flora and fauna of South Florida. I am inspired by the diversity and energy that occurs in our ecosystems and want to encourage people to share my sentiments. The 3 panels refer to water, synthesis, and birds. Water connects everything, flora, fauna and the birds readily apparent in our environment, and somewhere in between there is a synthesis or magic happening. Each panel has videos of the subject matter akin to a dream. They are meticulously crafted like moving paintings after filming the scenes. The linear flowing lights surrounding the 3 panels are symbolic of the various energies of life converging into our region and representative of human and species migration. These lights slowly change colors as they cascade towards the panels. Colors are mapped to different energy signatures in the videos. Behind each panel, a diffuse aura emanates from another set of lights, glowing blue/green during the day and changing to a dusky pink and coral towards the evening. The work is always in flux, slowly changing like the ebb and flow of the tide and reminds us we share this land with some interesting biodiversity.
Goals of this project was to create a contemporary and welcoming atmosphere into the main lobby for a residential complex. Using inviting color schemes and taking inspiration from the nature around the South Florida landscapes.
Various flora and fauna that live around the site were considered for inspiration. These ideas were translated into video, light forms, and water jet cut aluminum panels.
