Overview
18' x 8' x 9', bronze and stainless steel; large-scale, site-specific public sculpture located at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Artwork is sited in front of the university's new technology center. $150,000 budget. 2014.
Goals
Because this sculpture is sited in front of the University's new technology school, I used a symbol familiar with any student...wire nuts. I also incorporated an important idea in both classrooms and professional settings...working together. The intertwined cables can be seen as individuals coming together into a whole - almost a tree of progress. Notably, with added seating, the sculpture becomes a place to literally come together as a functional gathering place.
