Overview
Clifton Park community built a new Gymnasium and Community Center. KRS was commissioned for two projects on the site. These images are large printed images of Sports (front of building) and Swimming (pool side) on the new aluminum 5'x5' metal panels. Second project is a sculptural bench with lighting to be installed in 2019. The project allowed for a visual identity to this under serviced neighborhood as a safe and exciting area for community use for all.
Goals
The project allowed for a visual identity to this under serviced neighborhood as a safe and exciting area for community use for all. Families drop off their kids to play in the multi use sports center and swim in the open pool park at these of the buildings. The panels on the Sports Gym are very large and this identity seems to have lowered crime in the neighborhood.
Process
KRS worked with the Architect and Contractor along with the Arts Commission and the Parks Director to re purpose the aluminum substrate panels as art. The Aluminum panels are each 5' x 5', with a Kynar finish (mica for refraction), 81 each. The manufacturer was hesitant for our printing on the surface but finally agreed and we printed on each panel portions of the large graphic sports images and visual icons of 'Stix' and 'Pool Reflections'. After printing we also sent the panels for a clear coat surface to protect the printing. Project panels went up in two days.
Additional Information
I am always very happy to work in neighborhood communities that were thought as under serviced and found that the individuals are very proud and supportive for Public Art for safety, identity and cultural context.
