Overview
Bringing urban beauty to life with glass.
Commissioned project of 3 panels each 48″x36″ with hand cut shimmering glass contrasting with matte concrete.
CITYscape NYC is an imaginary view of the Upper West Side as seen from Central Park reservoir. At 4’x3’, these 3 panels feature intricate architectural elements and segments shimmering in hand cut glass alongside matte concrete. The foregrounded “water” reflects the skyline. Lighter grout and a painted sky in a soft textured gray creates a bright and vibrant daytime view.
Strategic use of iridized glass makes the panels highly responsive to light and viewer movement for an engaging visual experience.
Goals
To create a visual feature for a corporate HQ with a unique take on urban beauty and familiar NYC views.
Process
Artist provided preliminary design concepts in digital form for art consultants' review. Email and phone conversations permitted efficient remote collaboration to get to a design concept consistent with the client's desired theme. Palette decisions connected with the colorway and design features of the clients new space.
