Overview
City of Lakes was the winning competition entry for a series of public art pieces at a new civic four-pad arena in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The project takes inspiration from the unique geographic landscape of the area, and the strong history and culture of skating on its water bodies.
Goals
The RFP called for three distinct, but thematically related installations - a supergraphic on the building’s facade, a suspended sculpture in the double height atrium space, and bicycle racks flanking the front entry. All three of these elements called for careful coordination to integrate the artworks seamlessly with the building and surrounding environment.
Process
The project required design development and collaboration with the municipality, project architects, the property management group, the general contractor, and a variety of subcontractors, fabricators and installers. Passage Studio communicated continually with all stakeholders throughout the course of the project and oversaw all aspects of the production and installation of the various art pieces.
