Overview

Accompanying the newly-built hockey facility Lifeguard Arena and revamped civic plaza, the installations include a pair of 25-foot chromed hockey sticks fixed to the Lifeguard Arena’s pedestrian bridge, five life-sized hockey puck seating elements, three unique seating sculptures in the plaza, and two pairs of 35-foot-wide artistic barrier gates over the main street so the city can close the road during events.

Goals

Downtown Henderson is experiencing a revival. The city sought to enliven its new and updated spaces with large-scale art pieces meant to attract and engage the community to create an urban destination for everyday use. The goal of each art piece is to reflect the change in energy and encourage play and liveliness, especially for the family-oriented events held within the plaza and with the emphasis on youth hockey at Lifeguard Arena.

Additional Information

All of the art pieces are a play in scale. Enlarging the human scale objects of hockey sticks and pucks posed engineering and technical challenges. The creative artistic barrier gates adorning the north and south street entrances welcome all with color and playfulness.
