Overview
The Chromatic Lattice invites viewers into a dynamic visual interaction. As a person’s viewpoint changes with their movements Lattice’s struts braid in and out of alignment, allowing the viewer to experience a dazzling optical effect as patterns of color, line, and open space fluidly ripple across the sculpture.
Goals
The goal of this project was to create an installation for the Rhode Island Department of Behavioral Headquarters that would enliven the space. The Lattice situates a point of energetic welcome to visitors and staff alike that reflects the caring work the Department does to serve the State's residents.
Process
Originally this project was conceived for a community engagement program wherein some of the beneficiaries of the Department's programs would collaborate on creating the sculpture. The Lattice's modular building system was designed to this end, however, the program canceled due to the public health concerns.
