Overview
Rise. Located adjacent to the World Trade Center site. Blown glass, acid etched, vitreous enamels, silver stain, fired, laminated. 24’ x 10.5’
Goals
Compositionally, the movement is one of collapse and rebirth. This mirrors the paradoxical theme of the window: one finds strength in sorrow and hope in desolation. The somber hues give the work an inherent sadness, while small, bright areas of yellow shine through with the promise of better things to come. Hence, the window is a flower, fearlessly growing from the ashes of destruction.
Process
I worked closely with the parishioners to give the best design solution for a very emotional project. Initially they wanted the panels scattered across the facade but we decided to rearrange some existing windows for a more substantial statement. All were very pleased with the end result.
