Overview
“The Golden Rule” acrylic paint, brass leaf, gold powder on plaster, was created as a one of a kind mural meant to inspire the students of Carney Academy to reinvigorate a beautiful built-in dormant greenhouse in their school.
Goals
Inspired by our post industrial landscape, mathematical and scientific diagrams, and a healthy dose of Turner-esque abstraction, "The Golden Rule" is designed to revere the greenhouse as a place of growth and therefore, worship. Worship of fostering knowledge of our natural world and how it relates to one's inner being.
Process
The Marion Institute created an initiative called GROW Education dedicated to revitalizing New Bedford Public Schools built in greenhouses as well as build some new ones on school grounds. The Carney Academy Greenhouse was the flagship effort to make a special mark on this program.
Additional Information
I wanted the mural to feel like an altar piece. An homage to our landscape and the community within. The final outcome of this piece will have a vining plant climbing the right side of the mural and integrating with the flora and cell imagery on top.
