Overview
The piece is 150 square feet in length by 12' in height. This work supports how integrated building parts can become an artist’s palette, as well as serve a function and need to the greater whole of the project. Myth, metaphor and invention give way to the endless collaborative process of integrated works.
Goals
Floating feathers of the Indiana State bird, the cardinal, are the abstraction between "ground" and "air." Cardinal Points incorporates art glass elements into a dividing wall in the security checkpoint area for Concourse B of the new terminal. The piece uses images of a flying cardinal — the Indiana state bird — and isolated images of cardinal feathers to establish a metaphor for the drama of flight, overlaid on an image of the historic city grid of Indianapolis. The art glass was fabricated by Franz Mayer of Munich. In application to the Belle Glade Library, this work supports how integrated building parts can become an artist’s palette, as well as serve a function and need to the greater whole of the project. Myth, metaphor and invention give way to the endless collaborative process of integrated works.
Process
Collaboration is key. Discussion and an exchange of ideas creates a strong project for all involved. Understanding that the goal is to create an ART in public space - the goal is to create work that has levels of meaning to the once in a lifetime viewer, or the commuter and engage a child and her wonder. The process of creating art in public space is collaborative in spirit and process from beginning to end with the viewers engaging with the work.
Additional Information
Our longtime commitment and work with Franz Mayer of Munich is an ideal collaborative process built of trust, exchange and dialogue, without this talented studio that understands artists and the work, effort and vision - the piece would not be possible.
