Overview
An art glass installation consisting of mouth-blown sheet glass with vitreous paints laminated to mirror. Wrapping around four walls, the work features 2,600 tiles. Dimensions: 10′h x 160′w.
Goals
HOK Architects asked me to design a cornerstone piece that reflects the natural environment of the CalSTRS (California State Teachers Retirement System) Headquarters in West Sacramento, CA. The building is located at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers.
Process
I worked with Derix Glass Studios to create a "box of water" made entirely of hand-painted, mouth-blown glass tiles. The tiles reflect the ambient light and the movement of visitors to the space reminiscent of the reflective surface of water.
