Artwork was solicited from Maryland artists to be reproduced on fabric panels measuring either 7 x 7 feet or 7 x 10 feet and installed in a series of four rotating exhibitions of seven panels each in the airport concourses.

According to the airport authorities, "In addition to permanent exhibitions and enhancements, a program of changing exhibitions provides a venue to showcase specific cultural and artistic assets of the Baltimore/Washington region." With the construction of a new terminal and concourse connecting it to the existing terminals, artists residing in the State of Maryland and Washington, DC, were invited to submit images of original artwork to be reproduced n large-scale fabric panels. A jury of art experts selected 28 images out of over 580 submitted. Each set of images was on view for six months. Two of my photographs were selected, and appeared in two different exhibitions. The goal was to highlight the new terminal, but also to provide a warmer, less sterile atmosphere to the airport. Airport officials acknowledge that air travel can be stressful, and art helps create a more welcoming environment.

I provided high quality TIFF images to Full Circle Photo, which created a high resolution image that could be enlarged to 7 x 10 feet without loss of image quality. Art consultant Susan Perrin oversaw the production of fabric panels and stretchers, and the installation of the panels for each show.

Additional Information

The photographs of mine chosen for this show were taken in Antarctica, and convey the idea of travel, adventure, and exploration that seemed appropriate for an airport setting.
