Overview
There are five 3/8″ thick aluminum panels. Four of the panels are 11' tall by 5' wide and the fifth panel is 14.5' tall by 6.5' wide. The design consists of three different sized laser cut circles which range in diameter from 2 1/8″, 1 1/2″, and 1″. Each panel is powder coated a warm grey (Pantone 7527). Behind each panel the back wall is painted with three colors of blue. The lower wall is painted with Pantone 290, Pantone 292 begins with the second panel, and the upper wall is painted with Pantone 293.
Goals
The name of the work is "Cascade" as in a waterfall, especially in a series of waterfalls or anything suggesting movement such as a shower of sparks or arrangement of rippling folds. This "Cascade" suggests high velocity which reflects an all encompassing Daytona experience. From speed and swiftness of the first beach race to the ebb and flow of Daytona's beaches.
Process
The collaborative process between the Artist, the Vice President of Design, the Senior Director of Corporate Development Management, the panel experts, the painters, and the panel installers was seamless. Everyone worked together to accomplish a very ambitious project in a very short period of time.
