Overview
Bouquet is an installation of unglazed porcelain. Each of the pieces are hand made floral pieces. The Floral shapes are stacked and simulate the shape of the light fixture in the entry of the Health Care Professionals building at Northwest Arkansas Community College, in Bentonville, AR. The sculpture take up an area of space 9 feet long x 3 feet high.
Goals
The committee that choose my design from a call to artists, deciding it was more fitting than the paintings that were submitted for the space by other artists. Considering the TV monitor installed on the center panel of the area, they felt the flow of the floral pieces fit better as a design feature and liked that it reflected the shape of the light fixture.
Process
I worked with the help of my assistant, Mary Motes.
Additional Information
There are 41 floral pieces and they create an interesting shadow pattern on the wall. There are three sizes and they are constructed with 16 slabs each. One section of the piece is made with four petals, 8 slabs connected. a second piece is made just the same, but rotated on top so to mimic the light fixture.
