This piece is part of a series of paintings and prints as an iconic reflection on the impact of a brand, evoking nostalgia and joy. Created in a time of ‘selfies’ and hashtags, it’s been titled to reinforce the obvious.
There is a sense of propriety and ego in this posture of the vespa, as it militaristically stands at attention, and somewhat snootishly looks down on passersby. It is drawn from the older, slimmer model Vespa, which has it’s history as a military transport vehicle. While it is a small and vulnerable scooter, the Vespa claims and commands it’s environment.
This iteration of the vespa required the artist to work with fabricators, welders, transportation requirements, solve engineering components and navigate code requirements.
