Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School, Davie, FL Broward County Educational Grant
$45,000
Ocean vegetation and animal life inspired this individually sculpted glazed ceramic mural based on the teacher’s curriculum.
Goals
As a grant funded project it was mandatory to include the community. This Elementary School is part of an Educational Complex including a private school, local College, a University and a Performing Arts Center. I was able to engage participants from all of these components. All contributed ideas to the overall design which was based on the teacher's curriculum.
Process
An elementary school art teacher contacted me to be the Public Artist named in a grant she wanted to apply for.based on a recently completed grant funded project I completed at another educational facility I networked to include over two hundred community volunteers ranging in age from young children and their parents to college students located on a campus nearby to participate. They created clay sculpture, helped to glaze and install under my supervision.
Additional Information
The mural is located on a large exterior wall 200 feet from a highly traveled road. It is designed to be seen by vehicular traffic as well as students in the school.
