Overview

Local turn-of-the-century park icons are recreated in a contemporary manner, symbolizing optimism and progress as part of the city’s revitalization effort. The fountain Wellspring stands as the centerpiece of the park’s renovation, referencing the original from the 1800’s. The design also includes a domed performance pavilion titled Oculus, park furniture and a children’s play area consisting of six 3’-high cast-bronze Black Squirrels (the city icon). The work is an enormous success and transformed the community’s self image. It was voted one of the Great Places in America by the American Planning Association.
