Overview
Made of over 65,000 glass smalti all carefully selected and set by hand, Flight Pattern Quilt references the fiber arts heritage of the region. The artwork is inspired by quilt stitching, flight maps and con trails, and harmonizes with the airport’s interior.
Goals
The goal was to provide an invigorating and elegant artwork for the lobby that would also respond to the earth tones and simplicity of the interior design.
Process
The artist redesigned the artwork niche to bring the piece into the room and improve the viewer's perspective. To meet the budget, the work was cut into panels and an innovative framing system was developed to simplify installation.
