Overview

Audience is a site-specific public artwork that connects the vibrant community of Ffwrnes Theatre with the town of Llanelli in Wales. When activity is detected in the public plaza below, virtual characters appear in the elevated panoramic window. When more people gather below, more virtual characters appear in the window. These characters are at once performers and an audience that watches the everyday performances below. The project was commissioned by Carmarthenshire County Council. Goals

The artwork was intended to activate and animate the public space. The first commission intended to celebrate the diverse community that uses the theatre and provide a platform for showcasing and broadcasting activity within to the wider public outside. The display is conceived as a canvas for creative expression to be taken over by local artists. The bespoke canvas creates a digital showcase while allowing the window to function, affording views in and out of the theatre. The format can shift between one large fragmented panorama comprised of twelve vertical strips and six larger portrait frames.
