The art committee met to discuss adding a piece to the existing chapel space. The requirement was that it encompass all religions. I designed a textile piece which uses the arch which is a symbol from antiquity to depict this integration of historical icon in modern contexts. The result is art that is archaeological in nature, mysterious in design and reverent in interpretation with the illusion of a patina of age. I then hand embroidered symbols from the world's nine major religions and used colors to compliment the adjacent stained glass walls (see photo).
The art committee and several interfaith leaders met to approve the project which was designed by the artist. As the artist, I met several times with the contact person from the AtlantiCare Foundation.
