Overview
Astralgraph, 2014, 60' x 9' x 6″, steel, walnut hardwood, local artisan ceramic.
Goals
The project was largely an effort to integrate artwork into the hectic and often stressful experience of air travel. Astralgraph can be engaged from any angle and encourages people to walk around the central wall to explore the art piece.
Process
Worked with local fabricators, crafts people and designers from the conceptual phase - up to the final installation.
Additional Information
Interactive and highly tactile, the design was derived from a series of explorations in San Diego’s local geography, cartography and navigation, sensory perception, geometry and ordering principles. Constructed of steel, wood and local artisan ceramic. Wraps 360 degrees around a central wall in the airport food court.
