Overview
The work is made of stainless steel with armature inside, mounted on a steel powder coated base. Work stands 25' tall, 10.5' wide by 5' deep. It was installed January of 2017.
Goals
It is an entry way piece, located on a major highway and the entrance to the High Point Longstreet Medical facility. The name came from the developer, calling it "Ascelphius", who in history was known as the Greek god of health and well being.
Process
As a sculptor, I make many maquettes. This maquette was borrowed to show as an example " of what was possible" during a board meeting, where one of the developers fell in love with it and commissioned the work on the spot. We had two structural engineers help with the mount down and internal armature design.
Additional Information
This is brushed single direction grain on 300 series stainless steel.
